After the meeting with the Harpers, Kellar made his way to Thrirnan's shop and knocked loudly. The dwarf artificer answered the door and she observed the blue man standing there with his large crossbow in his hands, holding it like a child. I would ask you, Artificer Thrirnan, to imbue this weapon with energy so that I might smite my enemy, whether they are from this world or otherwise, he said to her. She smirked and replied, Oh, I don't know about all that imbue and smite stuff, but come on in, she said.

Thrirnan pointed to the table that had different machinations on and around it, moving and revolving slowly. She said, Set it there, and we'll see what we can do. You know it'll cost you something, nothing's done for free. Kellar nodded to her and he reached for his coin purse. Thrirnan put her hand up and said, Blue man, I'm not interested in gold, if that were all I wanted I'd have made all that and then some. I'm more interested in favors and returns on investment. Kellar put his hands up and shrugged his shoulders, What do you have in mind? I can spare about a week's worth of time before I'm needed elsewhere.

She smiled wide and said, Well, we best be using this week then while I have you. Can you do anything, other than kill? Kellar thought for a moment and replied, Well, I have a set of leather tools, it's been a long time since I've used them, but I can make all manner of things as long as I have the materials for it. Nothing overly complex, but practical. Thrirnan nodded and said, Well, Blue man, let's trade services for goods. I'll need... she said as she looked to the ceiling and counted, one, two, three, four, five- seven, seven fur lined cloaks with hoods. They need to be cuir, so you'll have to find some beeswax.

Seven?!? That's a considerable amount of cloaks to be made cuir as requested. I'll need the names of vendors to contact and purchase large quantities of beeswax and hides for stretching and boiling, he said. I guess it'll pass the time, he continued. Thrirnan offered the first vendor, Hartigan the Herder should be able to help with hides, he owns a ranch just outside the city. He provides a large portion of the food and livestock for the Inns. Tell him that Thrirnan sent you, that may provide a small discount. I did some work for him a long time ago, he wanted automated lamps for his property.

The dwarf continued, the other one you'll want to visit is Quartermaster Axolot. She has kept several bee hives on her property to produce honey for making mead. She'll not be wanting to easily part with the beeswax since she converts that into candles for the priory. Expect to pay for the beeswax and then some. She can be found somewhat close to Hartigan's, but it's on the other side of the orchard. Kellar kept track of the who he was supposed to meet with to gather materials to make the items Thrirnan requested. Alright, I think that should do it for making the cloaks you requested. What purpose do they serve? he asked. Well, you know an artificer has to make a living as well. Imagine a cloak that has the ability to absorb light without incantation, AND repel water at the same time! she exclaimed. It'd be able to keep my clients dry from the sea or storms, and when needed, become a shadow to avoid being detected. I'm good at putting effects into items, but I'm not any good at manipulating the dead flesh of an animal without making my own skin crawl, she said.

Kellar left his crossbow and lance with Thrirnan, and just before he left he said, Can you make sure the others are able to have their items imbued with something to make them as effective as my own when you're done? My lance has the blessing of Meleil, perhaps that can be duplicated and put on the other weapons? Or, if you have something cold or fire related that would be great as well. She waved her hand at the Blue Man to get out of her shop. He left and went to track down the vendors and obtain the items he needed to create the cloaks.

AO, if you'd prefer that I continue this in the other thread I can do that, otherwise I'll have a large wall of text about what Kellar is doing during the week to get the items enchanted... Let me know.

===================
At Thrirnan's with Kellar
--------------------------------

One Kellar and Thrirnan have finished their business, Cuss steps forward and drops his pack on the ground. He pulls it open to reveal the black cloth of K'Tesh's cloak inside. "I've a mind to get this cloak fitted for me. Can ya do something like you were telling me friend to this when I have it ready? As for trade, well, I've a mind for many tools, but ya could hardly call my skills a trade. I'm better at picking locks, setting traps, and mixing poisons than I be at making clothes, yeah?"

Custer chuckles then scratches his chin in contemplation, "Being on the docks can be rough when the wrong crowd is about. Do ya have any problems with thugs or hoods?"

When the conversation is drawing to a close, Custer's eyes widen, and he dives back into his pack, "Oh, yeah, I found this thing! What's it do?" Cuss comes out of the bag with the Chime of Opening recovered from the Shadow's Galleon.

Okay, Dwan, if you could stop and collect the beeswax for me that would be great. Quartermaster Axolot is who you're looking for. If you could meet me at Hartigan's that would work best. I'll need to find a tannery as well to convert the hides into something usable to make cloaks, he said.

Kellar left for Hartigan's and eventually arrived at the ranch where there were a large number of cattle and other animals freely roaming about. He approached the main building that he assumed was where Hartigan was. Kellar knocked firmly on the door and heard a muffled, Come in, before you knock the blasted door of the hinges! With what he thought was a mild push on the door, Kellar entered the building and found a few chickens moving about and clucking. There was a plain desk with a roost above it, with chickens in it, looking down on Kellar and Orbaugh. Orbaugh grinned wide as he saw the chickens up above. Feathered dragons! Kellar chuckled softly as he approached the desk.

Something funny Blue Man, the old man questioned. Your lizard won't be causing trouble now will he? And what do YOU want, he said to the chicken walking across his desk and pausing to look at him. It's head tilted slightly to the left, Buk. Kellar waited a moment and then said, Thrirnan said I could meet with you about, uh, hides? Yes, yes. I have hides here. I've got a makeshift stretcher and boiler pot out back. I don't do it front of the animals though cuz' it makes em' uneasy, Hartigan replied. I've got four up right now on stretchers, how many hides do you need?

Kellar looked toward the ceiling and counted in his mind and then said, Eight. Large enough to make cloaks from. I have an associate bringing Beeswax to soak into the leather to cuir them. Fine fine, I need to fill a couple beef orders anyway, you can have the hides off them beasties, he replied. Now for cost, it's five gold pieces for each hide, so 40 gold pieces for that, use of water and boiler is ten gold pieces, use of stretchers is another five gold pieces, cleaning fees is another five, and ten for use of sinew and lanolin. So let's see... your total is: 70 gold pieces, he said to Kellar.

Can you drop the price at all? Thrirnan said you'd be able to help me, Kellar said. Persuasion Roll= 7+2= 9; failure. Blue Man, if I dropped the price when people dropped names I wouldn't be open for business, Hartigan said. In any event, payment first, keep your lizard away from the chickens and be quick about your business here, he continued. Everything you need is in the back, let me know when you're done, Hartigan concluded.

Kellar rolled his eyes and replied, Very well, here's the gold. Orbaugh won't harm the chickens. Send the dwarf back when he gets here, thanks. Come along Orbaugh, you can have some of the fat from the hides when we stretch them. Yum...

Kellar went to work on the hides and getting them ready for boil, the large kettle was loaded with water and he began working on the hides, removing the hair with his skiving tool. At this rate I'll be here all night, well I might be done for the evening here, need to meet up with the Harpers, he said. Dwan arrived with the wax and began loading it into the kettle with the water. If you could Master Dwarf, keep the fire going, do you have magic that can keep it going through the night, he questioned.

He left to meet with the others and Harpers at Three Old Kegs.

Kellar stopped at Thrirnan's to check on her progress. He told her, I also have an extra cloak as well. I'll pay for the enchantment on it. Make it like the others you were commissioned to make, if that's okay, he said. He nodded to Thrirnan and then took his leave back toward Hartigan's. He arrived there and began by checking on the boiler and it appeared to have been going through the night, it was finally up to temperature thanks in large part to Dwan. I should thank him the next time I see him, he said. Kellar dunked the hides in the boiler and let it sit while he went and setup the draining rigs before he stretched them.

Kellar removed the hides soaked in beeswax and hastily set them on the draining rigs. He waited a while and then moved the rigs out into the sun so the hides would dry a bit faster. It was early afternoon when he checked the hides and they had began to harden a bit as the moisture left the wax behind in the fibers of the hide. He wheeled them back inside the shop and began slowly stretching each of the hides out to complete drying. It was early evening when he had finally completed the stretching of the hides on the racks. He left for the day and went back to the Inn for food and drink.

The next day, he began skiving off the excess wax that had formed at the bottom of each hide on the stretchers. He tested each hide and then removed them and put them into a pile and grabbed his leather knife to cut out blanks for each cloak. With all the cloaks cut, he began using his awl to punch holes along the seams to draw the sinew through begin forming the shape of the cloak. He saved the scraps and then cut them to form hems along the outside edges of the cloak so he could bind a few soft deer hides to the inside to line it.

With his hands sore and mind exhausted from fitting each piece and laying out the stitching pattern, Kellar retired for the day, returning to the Inn for more food, drink and sleep. On his last day, he returned to Hartigan's finished out the stitching on each cloak and then applied a mixture of tar and beeswax to each cloak to give it a dark color. He completed each cloak in that fashion, save one, which he made a rich red color by using beet powder. One last look at each cloak to check for each stitch and color evenness, he gathered them and bundled them and off he went to Thrirnan's.

I hope this was worth it, he said to Orbaugh, who was resting on top of the cloaks.

[Ok guys, this was quite the undertaking! All weapons you can have back immediately, enchanted with a +1 bonus from Thrinans. It's a magical bonus, enchanted by weighted crystals imbued by the weave. The cloaks, you'll not be able to retrieve until the end of the week. Cheers]
