Post  Kellar on Fri Apr 10, 2015 10:14 pm

Orbaugh went crashing through the window much easier than he'd anticipated. He tumbled down to the floor and was quickly met by a black cat. Hisssss! he responded as Dwan had batted at his face and he deftly dodged each swipe. Master! Cat! Orbaugh could hear his master chuckling to him in his mind as he replied, that's Dwan, the Dwarf we picked up that replaced Kilik. As Orbaugh pranced around the Cat playfully he said to his master, That no Dwan! That Cat! Again, Orbaugh could hear the laughter coming from Kellar. He changes Orbaugh, don't be alarmed! Okay!

Orbaugh darted away from Dwan and moved about the room, looking for any threats to himself or the others in the room. Orbaugh, look out the window, find the two guards. Okay! he said as he moved to the window and peered outside. They by pretty lady. Yes.

As Kellar walked and rounded the corner, he spoke into the Kraken's Fist and relayed the information to Custer, the two guards are still near the maiden. What do you want me to do? I can move to reclaim her, pretend to be drunk? He walked up the street and neared the cafe again, awaiting Custer's orders before he made his move.

Cuss thinks back to Kellar, Is there a way for me to come out the back and circle around to the Cafe from down the street?  Would rather not walk out through the gate.

As Kellar is walking, he receives Custer's message and responds, There should be something through the kitchen in the back, looked like an easy way out without detection. It's a window, no door, which would explain why they only were at the front of the house. Do with that what you will.

Re: Chapter Three

Cecil looks at Custer and mouths, “who are you” -

But the young man is obviously too distressed to care.

“How-how did you get in? Them broken arrows been idling outside my apartment the last two days. I tried leaving once, but they started walking toward me so I came back inside.”

He’s talking fast now, looking to ramble - but at Kellar’s missive Custer moves to escort him out the back way.

Cecil follows him worriedly, flanked by Dwan from behind. The mousy-haired youth cradles the crossbow, without a bolt in sight, like a security blanket.

The halfling sees the window that Kellar was speaking of up ahead. It’s a ten foot drop onto the cobbles below, in an alley with no visibility to the street.

Cecil looks out, puzzled.

“I…I didn’t think of that.” he murmurs, rubbing his eyes.

“Why are you helping me?”

[…]

Cecil lets out a muffled cry as he lands, ungracefully, on the cobbles in the alley. Custer and Dwan follow him down effortlessly.

A cold wind blows through the alleyway, and the trio take to a light jog through the dimly lit corridor, the lanterns swaying above them in the breeze…

[…]

Cecil sits in front of the fellowship, in the smoking parlour of the cafe. Custer caught its’ name on the way back in - The Brown Boot -. The serving woman followed him in not long after, collecting his gold and nodding to the private quarters, with a broad smile as she pockets the coin.

It is an ornate room, with leather-bound booths and polished oak tables. An iron chandelier casts a warm light, while the smell of mineral oil and brewing herb tea bristles your nostrils.

Cecil sits uncomfortably in front of a mug of honey and lemon in steaming hot water. He eyes Custer, and then the rest of the fellowship, swallowing uncomfortably when he sees the mage, and avoiding eye contact with the grizzled Osvald.

“How do you know me? How do you know my brother?” he asks, taking a cautious sip of his tea.

“I don’t know where you’ve come from, but if you’re looking for Soren and his lot, I can’t help you. They came and went three days ago. Knocked on my door with DeAza and Lord, two enforcers from the Broken Arrows. Gods, I thought they were gonna kill me for leaving. But they didn’t seem to care - just wanted to know where my brother was. I told them I didn’t know…”

He coughs nervously into his sleeve.

“But they didn’t believe me. Probably would’ve cut my throat, those arrows would have. But Soren stopped ‘em, said if I had something to tell them everything would work out. Then he left, and those two guards showed up the next day.”

His face whitens, and he nearly chokes on his beverage.

“What…what if they go back into my apartment, and find me missing? They’ll have every arrow on the street looking for me. Probably put a bounty on my head. Gods - I should go back. I should go back upstairs right now.”

He stands, awkwardly flanked by the fellowship. He moves to leave.

=====================

Ok guys, Cecil is obviously spooked and worried. Going to need some diplomacy and conversation here. Make sure you ask whatever questions you want of him, and provide some supporting rolls. The tactics you take here will determine the trajectory of the next segment - so be deliberate in how you go about this.

I want everything resolved this rotation, so we can move the story forward. Been a bit of a sleepy week here on RoL, want to supercharge this shit.

Lets roll!

EXP: +50 to cuss, dwan and kellar, for a great post rotation. Thanks guys, made that special and really stepped it up.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Custer Thickett on Sun Apr 12, 2015 3:27 pm

Custer opens the window and leans on the seal to look out up and down the alley.  He turns to Cecil and motions for him to climb down.  "Careful, now, yeah?"

“Why are you helping me?”

Cuss answers, "I already told ya, Waukeen brought me to ya.  I need ya help."

Cuss lands in a quick squat to cushion the impact.  He turns to Cecil and eyes where he is cradling his leg.  "She said ya ran with the Arrows.  No wonder they let ya quit so easy, yeah?"  Cuss laughs and reaches around Cecil to help him limp along.  "Can ya put any weight on it?  Dwan there," Cuss nods to the black cat, "can look at it once we get to the Cafe."  Cuss's smile broadens in response to Cecil's look of confusion.

In the Cafe, Cuss praises the server.  "Well done.  Do ya want some?"  Cuss winks at her again.

In the private quarters, Cuss helps Cecil to a spot in a leather booth so that he can recline and rest his injured leg.  Cuss then takes a seat across from him, and nods to the others.  Cuss begins to introduce the group, but Cecil rambles and interrupts.  Cuss places both hands on the table, and pushes his palms into the wood in a minor effort to still his frustration.

When Cecil rises to leave, Cuss rises faster, and positions himself before Cecil to block his exit.  Cuss places an open palm on Cecil's chest, and rest his other hand on Cecil's shoulder, squeezing slightly.  "Whoa there, ya haven't finished ya tea or let us speak a word, no?  I paid good coin for this audience, I'll have ya know.  Ya safer here with us than ya'll ever be alone, boy.  If the Arrows wanted ya head, they'd already have it.  Most like those two have eyes on ya just to watch for any sign that ya might be in contact with Thorold.  Might be ya one of the best leads they have on em.  Iffen they killed ya, then they'd never find em, yeah?  Sit down, have some rest.  Besides, how ya going to get back in, eh?  Ya just going to walk back across the street and limp up the stairs to ya front door?  Don't ya think they'd want words with ya over that?  Ya going to need our help to get back in through the window, no?  Ya'd never make the climb on that sprain."

[Rolling persuasion with advantage due to the whole party being in the room to help. +6]
15

Once Cecil sits back down, Cuss collects a cup of tea and sits across from him again.  "Ya've given us good news, Cecil.  'Fore we found ya, we'd no idea if Thorold was dead or worse.  Now, though, seems like he is alive and in hiding, yeah?"  Cuss waves an arm across the table to motion to the whole room.  "We followed Soren up from Amn.  He had his eye on something he needs in ya family vaults down there.  Spent a lot of coin and time to get into the vault, only to find that ya brother had already collected it and brought it back to Bauldur's Gate, most like."

Cuss takes a sip of his tea, and sighs.  "This is good tea."  Cuss pats the leather booth beside him, motioning for the server girl to come and take a seat.  He then pulls Elderro's ornate pipe out of his pouch and taps the ashes in it out in a dish.  He packs a thin bed of Halfling's Leaf in it as a bed for the Purple Flower, and hands it to the server girl after she has sat down.  "Show me friend Lord Hale there what ya got for us, yeah?  Osvald, what is this little treat?  Might be it is something we could grow at the Root and take to market in Esmeltaran, no?"

As she works at preparing the pipe, Cuss turns back to Cecil.  "The way I see it, Cecil, now that ya with us, Thorold has a chance.  We doan even need to find em.  Ya can help us draw Soren out in the open where our Harper friends could arrest him.  Once he's in chains for his crimes, then most like Thorold can safely come out of hiding, no?"  Cuss sips his tea, "But, as I said before, I need ya help as well.  We've interest in those of Bauldur's Gate that follow Cyric.  The Temple told me ya'd be a good person to ask about em.  Are the Arrow's in league with the laughing Halfling's cult of murder and lies?"  Cuss stares into Cecil as he waits for the man's answer.

[Rolling insight to try and tell if Cecil's answer is truthful or if Cecil knows more than he's willing to say +1]

Orbaugh followed the others out the window and promptly dropped onto Custer's shoulder and then plopping onto the ground and moved ahead of the group back toward where his Master waited. Kitty, Master! Kitty! Kellar shook his head slightly and rolled his eyes as he heard the excited squeak come from the pseudodragon.

Kellar positioned himself near the door to the cafe while Custer talked with him. All for the better, the last thing the kid needs is a Dragoon interrogating him... As Little One went about his bantering with the bewildered Cecil, Kellar noticed Cecil's eyes frequently dart toward the door and then back to the group that was in front of him. As Cecil stood up, Kellar lunged toward the door with a smooth SWOOSH! of air under his feet and he promptly landed softly and turned to face Cecil. I wouldn't be so quick to leave, especially if the Arrows are watching you. Listen to the Hin, this is his backyard after all, he said to Cecil. Intimidation Roll= 17+ 3= 20

With that, Kellar and Orbaugh looked out the door of the cafe back toward the house to keep an eye for the guards. Perception Roll= 6+4= 10

Actions:
Kellar intimidates to keep Cecil in the cafe, and then looks outside the cafe for trouble. Both rolls with advantage, one because of the group and the other because of Orbaugh.

Cecil stares at the intimidating form of Kellar, and then sinks back into his chair.

"I-uh-uh.... Yeah." He says, sipping nervously at his drink.

He is silent for a moment, and then becomes animated. The candlelight flickers in his face as he speaks;

"Yes, it's true. The arrows are searching for Thorold..."

Here, he takes a deep sip of his mug.

"I, I think they know where he went. When you came in, I thought you were meant to kill me, because they had already found Thorold. Gods... Soren would surely have been back to question me with more...creative persuasion, if they hadn't. No, I'm sure that someone leaked to them about our family's keep..."

Cecil stops drinking, looking over his mug timidly.

"Thorold took the urn. For what, he wouldn't tell me. Oh, please - you have to help him."

He pushes his mug away, and takes a deep breath.

"Six months ago, I was still working for the arrows. Soren came by, offering a tremendous sum to my chapter leader for information on the Urn of The Flame Lord. I was eager to prove myself, and I could scarcely believe my luck. That old Urn is a family heirloom, been with the Woodrechs for decades. Legend says that he who throws it into pure salt water, becomes the flame lord. It's ridiculous - what on earth is pure salt water? I think my father threw it into Baldurs Gate harbour as a boy, and my grandfather nearly killed him for doing so. Anyway, he didn't become any great lord. The urn is a piece of junk."

Cecil takes a deep breath.

"Anyway, I told Soren that it was in my family's vault in Athkatla. But... I'm a bastard, and only Thorold has access to our coffers, as a pure blood. And anyway, I just wanted to earn clout with my chapter master. So I told Soren to go see my brother."

Cecil fiddles with his necklace, an ugly wooden pendant of a nude woman.

"So Soren gives Thorold 5,000 gold to retrieve the urn. Thorold is book smart, but an idiot. He tells Soren he doesn't have access to the vault, but he can tell him he number. And then, Thorold goes and retrieves the Urn, taking it back to Baldurs Gate."

Now, he is talking animatedly, and nearly spilling his drink.

"Father nearly died when the exchequer guild told him of the robbery. I told Thorold to give the urn to father, but by now Thorold had figured out that Soren would be back to collect his money - the dolt. He was going to tell Soren "a deal is a deal", but I told him the arrows AND Soren would tear him a new back end. And so he promised me he'd return the money. But the idiot had gone and spent it, which I know now. And on top of that, he'd boasted to some whore he bedded about scheming against Soren, and of course the broken arrows heard it from her. So... He's in deep, now."

Cecil grows quiet.

"He left - for my family's keep. It's not owned in the name of Woodrech. Hells, it's a dilapidated, haunted, blight-ridden, tumbling disgrace in the middle of the woods. But Soren knows he's there, I'm sure of it. And when he finds him, Thorold'll be dead."

He looks directly at Custer, fiddling with his triket.

"I...I don't have any money. My father won't pay for Thorolds crime - far from it, once he knows what he's done. Not that it'll make a difference, while Soren is after him. My brothers a dead man, halfling. But... Here you are. Will you...."

He looks awkwardly at Custer.

"Will you save him?"

=================

Ok guys. Pretty direct. Custer, I didn't put it in prose, but Cecil doesn't know anything about cyric. Also, I owe you Pelegar.

Kellar, I'm sorry about the marketplace need to get tha up

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Custer Thickett on Tue Apr 14, 2015 3:20 am

Custer listens to Cecil as he carefully arranges the new contents of Elderro's Ornate Smoking Pipe.  He hands it to the server girl sitting beside him.  "Go ahead and get that going for us, me lady.  Ya earned it."  Cuss winks at her, thinking, What did she say her name was?

Cecil says, "Will you save him?"

A teapot begins to whistle in another room.

Cuss sighs as he leans back into the booth and slides an arm along the top of the bench behind the server girl.  He tilts his head sideways as he contemplates while speaking, "Eh, hard to say.  We'd need to get to em before Soren, most like."

"Might be he hasn't found the keep yet, no?  Might be ya could take us there.  How far out of the city is this estate?"

As Cecil finishes his answer, Cuss looks at the ceiling and lets out a audible wimpier.  "Oiy, an I just found a soft bed to rest me sea weary head."

He lowers his gaze to the room, and looks at the others there, noticing the server girl holding the smoldering pipe out in his direction.  He smiles and leans forward, pulling his arm back from around the bench behind her.  She hadn't noticed his seating position until that moment, and that, combined with his smile and her chest full of purple smoke, made her snort a laugh that erupted a billowing cloud of that smoke with a light shower of spittle.

Cuss deftly catches Elderro's pipe as it slips from her hand, frowning.  "Careful, girl."

She laughs harder as she turns red, then rises to stumble across the room back to the scullery beyond where the tea pot is now wailing.

Cuss shakes his head as he watches her go, then he offers the pipe to Cecil.  "Here, ya could use it more than the lot of us, yeah?  Just be careful with the pipe, or Soren will be the least of ya worries.  Ha!"  Cuss smiles broadly at him.

Whether or not Cecil partakes, Cuss holds the pipe out but looks around to the others.  "If we can track down Soren, and give Thorold a second chance, then the way I see it not only are we keeping a good relationship with our gnome and his lovely partner, but we also gain the favor of a merchant family with ties here and in Athkatla.  Could be worth a night's work, iffen we don't catch the ire of these Broken Arrows.  Last thing we need is another guild of thieves knowing our names, yeah?"

=============

Alright fellas, if we are heading out, lets decide if we are going to tell the Harper's or just head straight out with haste.  I say we take Cecil with us, either way.  Would be nice to procure mounts if there is any distance involved.  Might be a good time for Osvald to say hi to his friend and try to get some intel on what might be out there other than thieves and flame lords.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Dwan Bolduum on Tue Apr 14, 2015 8:54 am

As the party is closed up in the private room Dwan hops up on a chair and shape shifts back to his Dwarf form.

Alright lets get a look at that leg of yours. What? You've never seen a Dwarf before? Come here, boy, I'll have starved to death by the time you start talking. Dwan grabs Cecil by the arm and firmly sits him in the chair next to him. Seeing that the boy is shaken, Dwan fills a tankard from the pitcher and gulps it all down. Ahhh, that should make things easier. Oh, and one more! Dwan takes another full drink. Right! The leg. He says as he slams his tankard down on the table.

Dwan takes a closer look at the leg.  Good news is you were able to walk on your own, so it can't be that bad.  **Medicine roll 19+5=24**  Yup just like I thought, only a bruise. You'll be fine in a day or two. Dwan fills his tankard again, One of these will help you though. He says as he stands up and walks and leans against the back wall.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Cecil is explaining the situation to the group, Dwan eyes the  pendant that he is wearing, trying to get some kind of handle on if he has seen it before.  With his newly acquired Kraken's Fist, Dwan is curious as if this may hold any power, if the boy is just praying, or if he has a nervous tick and likes to fondle wooden ladies.
**Religion check 4+3 = 7**  (OOC: If Dwan doesn't recognize the necklace with his check then he will ask Cecil after he has made his plea)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Cecil finishes his explanation Dwan looks around the room to see how the group has taken this.  Custer seems to be on board for helping the boy, he almost seems overly happy.  Must be the purple leaf... Wait.

Dwan scans the room again and just notices that the serving girl has been with them the entire time, sitting by Custer's side. In an attempt to be discrete Dwan grabs the Kraken's fist through his beard and gestures as if he is scratching it.  Dwan keeps an eye on the girl to see if she is acting suspiciously **insight roll 5**

(If the fist allows Dwan to project to all of the party in the room he will, if not he will project first to Custer, and will relay this message to the rest of the group after the halfling's response.)

What is the serving girl still doing here? I understand the need for companionship but I feel that our best advantage against Soren is that he doesn't know we are coming.  From what I hear about the man he is cunning.  It doesn't seem too farfetched to me that he may have more than the two guards keeping an eye on Cecil.  I may just be paranoid, but if I were keeping watch on someone I would have more than two obvious guards close by.

Also, didn't it seem like she did too good of a job distracting the guards, to pull them both away from their duties long enough for us to get in and out without them noticing.  This just seems a bit too easy.  We don't even know her, or her name for that matter. We would be lucky if she hasn't already given us up to Soren's guards. You're acting as if we're still in your town, Baulder's Gate is a totally different beast. She is probably in somebody's pocket.

I think we need to make sure she doesn't tell anyone about this.  Maybe we take her back to the ship and have her keep Cecil and Ara company, while we settle this Urn business. Convincing her to come with us is up to you, I'm afraid that if I use my Dwarven charms that she won't let me leave the ship to join you at Thorold's.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Kellar on Tue Apr 14, 2015 2:54 pm

Kellar listens to Custer lay out the plan to take Cecil and then make their way out into the wilderness and offered, perhaps it'd be best to stop by Thrirnan's shop and see if the weapons are finished. I'd feel more comfortable with having MY weapons back in my hands before we go. Maybe Lord Hale could procure some mounts for us while we stop by the shop?

Besides, I need to see if a certain item is done before we go anyway. I need to speak with Adrianna before we head out as it is. Nothing of the business sort, mind you, he said sheepishly. As for Cecil here, he might be someone that we can have assist us when we get closer to our intended target, he said in a more serious tone to Custer.

Kellar looked at Dwan after receiving the message over the Kraken's Pendant and replied out loud, It matters little if she's on the take, she received her gold from Little One. It's clear that we're not the only ones after Thorold anyway. I appreciate your thinking in taking her with us, but that's one more person we have to watch out for, he said. Perhaps more coin would persuade her to be mum about our goings on, what do you think Master Dwarf, he questioned plainly.

Actions:
Kellar will head toward Thrirnan's Shop if "time wise" it works out that way, not entirely sure how that all fits together for us moving forward into the wilderness.
If it doesn't work out that way, Kellar will stick with his axe, shield and javelins.

As Kellar responds to Dwan out loud where the server girl can hear, and mentions taking her with us, Cuss exaggerates a long winded sigh as he slowly leans forward far enough to lay his forehead flat against the top of the table in front of him. Resting it there, Cuss thinks on how the comment must have sounded to her, not having heard Dwan's initial suggestion. Mayhaps over the whistle and smoke she didn't hear it the way I did. Cuss rolls his head to pinch his left ear between the table and his head, and looks toward the server girl with his right eye.

Dwan eyes Cecil's pendant suspiciously, looking for any hint of religious disposition in the crude wooden artifact.

Despite the dim light of this back room parlour, Dwan can see that it has no religious merit. It is simply an ugly talisman - in bad taste - worn by a misguided youth. A nervous tic, indeed.

Cecil mumbles something, and then clears his throat and speaks again, after taking a swig from the pint that Dwan had put before him.

"The castle is a days ride south from here, along the coast way, in the Cloak Wood. I haven't been there in years, but I'm sure I can find the way."

[...]

As you depart from the cafe, you can feel winters kiss beginning to bite in the air. Cecil shivers, lacking any sort of coat or cloak.

You move through the alleys behind the storefronts, finding yourselves eventually upon a high ridge, overlooking the harbour a long ways down below.

The sun hangs just above the horizon, and the panoramic view of Baldurs Gate begins to light with the lanterns of its citizenry.

In the distance, the ocean crashes against the sea wall, the great Baldurian sea tower facing out into the Sea of Swords as hundreds of ships file in to the harbour around her.

==•=•••••••+++++===========

Ok guys, preparations for departure. Horses, or on foot? Supplies? Are you leaving tonight, or in the morning? Are you telling the harpers?

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Osvald Hale on Thu Apr 16, 2015 3:47 am

Osvald sighs and pushes his hair back from his face.

"Aye, Kell. Horses shouldn't be a problem, Shandy'll have everything we need to make hasty preparations and set out tomorrow. Though the old bastard'll ring my neck if he finds out I've been in town this long without paying him a call."

He flashes a weak grin, a hint of genuine nervousness in his eye.

The ranger had been looking particularly haggard of late. (A detail Artimus was never shy to point out.) Dealing with the headaches Ara was causing him had left the son of Hale with little patience. The boy was irascible, and Osvald was quickly becoming a cantankerous bastard. While his garb was far cleaner then usual, His beard and hair has grown markedly longer since the fellowship had departed Amn, pulled back it serves only to highlight his myriad of scars and cleft ear. Though, in his foul mood, he found the unattractive countenance rather fitting. It was a simple yet effective ward against small talk and pleasantries, leaving Osvald free to grumble his plight to himself.

...

At the scenic vista the fellowship halts for a moment, and Osvald gestures toward the southern quarter of the city.

"I'll head to the stables now and see what favours I can beg of the old man. Artimus, any of that wine left in the hold I can promise him? If anyone cares to come along you're all more then welcome--but I warn you now: the old man drinks better then he breaths, and guests are obliged to keep up. ...Those of you who do head back to the ship; if that little runt isn't onboard, crack him hard in the head for me when he comes begging for shelter will ya? The little fools been running off into the city every chance he gets, and I haven't the patience to save the whelps life twice in a month." The ranger stalks off towards the Stables, muttering curses under his breath, bemoaning his stewardship of Ara.

=====

Whoa! Good to be back! Sorry all--life, y'know?

It's late so just a quick one for now, I'll give you guys a chance to jump onboard the stable trip and write up the encounter with Shandy tomorrow afternoon, unless Ao wants to handle his characterization!

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Kellar on Thu Apr 16, 2015 12:17 pm

Kellar made his way to Thrirnan's after Lord Hale mentioned he could secure mounts for the group. I'll head to Thrirnan's, after that I'll stop by the Harpers and pay a visit to Adrianna. I figure they may want to know our whereabouts, he said as he moved through the door. He stopped on the step and said, If anyone would like to come with me I'm all for it, there's a decent amount of weapons that were enchanted, having an extra set of hands would be helpful. Lord Hale, we'll meet up again in a little while.

Orbaugh ran in front of Kellar down the street back toward Thrirnan's shop. He arrived and knocked on the door and the buxom dwarf answered and beckoned him inside, Come in, come in Blue Man. Everything, except the red cloak is ready for your pickup. Kellar looked over his lance and crossbow, they felt lighter in hand, although they hadn't appeared to have been altered. He noticed the runes on each item and looked at Thrirnan. She replied, The enchantments need something to affix to when I weave the magic into the weapon or item. Think of it like a waterskin that holds the water until it's ready to be drawn from.

Thrirnan continued, The cloaks you made were top notch for such a short amount of turnaround for them to be completed. Here's one that I completed so far, please look, don't touch, the weave is still settling in the rune. Kellar looked over the cloak he had made, and noted the rune had been affixed to the tip of the hood at the hem. From that rune, he noted that there were intricate crystalline patterns that moved from it into the leather. He could see the patterns were moving into the wax soaked leather and absorbing it unto itself. Thrirnan saw the wonderment on Kellar's eyes and said, the wax you applied to the leather helps the rune seal the remaining crevices in the leather and make it softer and pliable while making it completely waterproof.

Amazing, he said to her and he re-connected the crossbow to his back and stowed his lance as well. Can I borrow a piece of parchment and a quill, he asked. Thrirnan walked to the counter and came back and handed it to him, here. Kellar jotted down the name of Thrirnan's shop and the street it was on and folded it and scribbled an A, with a lance symbol through it to form the letter (meant for Andrianna). He looked to Thrirnan and said, Thank you, an associate of mine will stop by at some point and collect the red cloak from you, it's a gift to her. She smirked and nodded to the Blue Man and waved him goodbye as he walked out the door.

::::The Harpers::::

Kellar found Andrianna and Geld and relayed the message that they would tending to some business and should be back in the Gate, sooner rather than later. Before Kellar left, he handed Andrianna a slip of paper and said, Here, visit this place for me while I'm gone. He looked Andrianna in the eyes and nodded slightly and left without saying another word.

Actions:
I left the visit to Thrirnan's open for comrades to add their flavor to the goings on, as well as the brief meeting with the Harpers if anyone should feel inclined to add more! Kellar is prepped for the journey into the forest!

Post  Custer Thickett on Thu Apr 16, 2015 9:15 pm

Cuss is briefly awed by the view, but memories of Esmeltaran burning slip into his mind, and he has to look away. I hope you are ok, wherever ya are, Roz.

"I'll come with ya, Kellar. Needs to be getting me weapons as well. Just need to stop by that tailor to get K'Tesh's cloak. I spect they done with it by now, yeah?"

Cuss ask the group, "Mayhaps we should carry a couple of days worth of trail rations, and a bit o something good to drink around the campfire, yeah?"

Before parting ways, Cuss looks up at Shorjahl, "Shorjy, do ya need more time or are ya fit to come with us to Woodrech's Keep?"

At the tailor, Cuss inspects the silver embroidering along the hem of his new fitted cloak. Is é ádh an buntáiste amháin gnóthachain duit ar an gcúrsa ceart gníomhaíochta. "For someone that doesn't know the language, ya did a fine job." Cuss runs his thumb along the threads, saying, "An he said he'd wear me face. Heh."

At Thrirnan's, Cuss inspects his hand crossbow that Dolan had commissioned for him that was now decorated with runes. Cuss pulled K'Tesh's bow out of his hip holster and compared the runes side by side. They were very different. K'Tesh's bow was black, and the runes carved into it were darker still. Dolan's bow was the color of polished oak, and the runes were set with white crystals. The stark contrast was appealing to Custer. As he placed the bows back in their holsters, he wondered if they would get along.

Cuss then inspected his father's light crossbow. Thrirnan then spoke up, "Couldn't do that one. The weave rejected it. Couldn't tell ya why. Maybe it's cursed?" Cuss replies, "Or blessed, no?" Thrirnan laughs as only a dwarf could.

Cuss then shows her his black cloak, "What can ya do with this, then?" ...

As they approach Three Kegs, Cuss ask Kellar, "Well, shall we tell em who Cecil is and take em with us, or no? Mayhaps they could talk Soren down, or might be he'd kill us all when he see's ya future bride again, yeah?"

Once leaving town, Cuss inquires with Cecil as to the best approaches to the keep for somebody not wanting to be seen from the windows and walls of the ruin. He also ask about the layout inside.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Dwan Bolduum on Fri Apr 17, 2015 8:20 am

I'll head back to the ship and check in on the boy, Osvald. It sounds like we may be out of town for a couple of days so I will prepare  and purify the supplies that we do have. I'll also round up a few more fish that we can salt so that it keeps on the road. Forgive me for not wanting to go back to the market to get more bread.

Dwan says a short farewell to each member in the group that isn't accompanying him before departing to the Pistoles.

Dwan breaths in the smell of the salty air as he steps aboard the ship. I cannot wait to be out of this city, too many people and the smell is just..  Dwan shudders a bit at the thought.  Dwan finds an empty  barrel in the hold of the ship and hauls it up to the deck of the ship, not seeing any sign of Ara.  For your sake, I hope you are asleep in your cabin.

Once he has the barrel situated on deck Dwan takes three of his makeshift bandages and places the strips side by side. Holding these down with his left hand he takes his scepter out with his right, closing his eyes and and mumbling in druidic, Dwan magically coerces the strips to mend together into one larger piece of cloth.  He then gathers the rope from his pack and ties it around one of the buckets often used for scrubbing the deck and tosses the bucket overboard to gather water from the harbor. Dwan gathers up the bucket, places the cloth over the top of the bucket and upends it over the barrel so as to strain out anything unwanted in the water.

After doing this several times Dwan gathers his scepter back up and turns his attention to the barrel.  Dwan focuses his energy on removing the salt and anything else in the water that may harm him or his comrades. *Dwan will cast two lvl 2 uses of Purify Food and Drink to purify all of the water that he gathered in the barrel.*

Once the water is prepared Dwan take one of the fishing rods on board and spends a quiet hour trying to catch something for the party to eat while they're away.  The fishing puts Dwan at ease as he spends his time reminiscing about his time in the Chondalwood. *Nature Roll 10+3=13*  Anything that he catches he will clean, salt, and wrap in a cool cloth to keep below deck. Once the fish are gathered Dwan focuses on removing anything that may have contaminated the fish living so close to the city.  *Dwan will use a lvl 1 use of Purify Food and Drink to purify his catch*

Once he is done with this Dwan makes a quick scan of the ship for Ara. *Perception 2+3 = 5* Once confirming or denying that the boy is on board. Dwan finds his resting place from the voyage and lies down to rest.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Ao on Fri Apr 17, 2015 11:01 am

As Custer walks through the streets of Baldur's Gate, a sudden whisper cascades into his ears.

"No word of your family, lord Thickett. The city fares much the same."

A brief word from Pelegar.

=========================

The high walls of Baldur’s gate recede in the distance, as six wayward travelers gallop along the Coast Way on the backs of rough, mismatched horses.

Morning gulls swoop low over their heads, and from the high ridge of this path you can see the waves crashing upon the shore below you. The air smells of salt, and the wide plains to the east shimmer with the pink sunlight of morning.

As the sun rises, you pass small farmsteads and hamlets, riding through tiny outposts and impromptu trade hubs, where dozens of tradesmen hawk their wares outside of the tariffs and taxes that the Baldurian market would bring. Cookfires and camps dot the horizon, the denizens of this bustling tradeway making their way through this prosperous countryside.

[…]

Osvald’s head is still pounding with the memory of Shandy’s reception. The hunter had spent the evening drinking with the ornery old drunkard, who had regaled him with tales of the local politics and gossips of the day.

Now, sitting alongside the Coast Way while the horses drank from a small pond, he could feel the alcoholic sweat beginning to burden his clothes.

Cecil stands, staring out onto the ocean. He’s spoken very little over the past few hours, and now as the sun begins to approach its noontime berth, his nerves seem to have increased.

Abruptly, he turns to the fellowship.

“Surely, Soren couldn’t have found him so quickly, right fellows? Perhaps I overreacted. I was worried, and nervous. Those guards set me on edge. Surely, we’ll find Thorold holed up in that old keep, with naught a thing to worry about. And I’ll convince father to pay Soren back the 5,000 gold. Or I’ll find it somewhere. I’ll work off his debt if I have to.”

The youth chews on his bottom lip, and goes back to looking out over the ocean.

[…]

As the afternoon wanes on, you find yourselves on an old farm road. Long since, you had passed the last stead, and now the cart path becomes more and more inhospitable to your travels.

Tall reeds and grasses hamper the horses, and the shrubbery rises up craggy and wild before you.

“This is the Cloak Wood.” says Cecil, out of breath.

You lead your horses along on foot, and the young man is busy cutting reeds before him with a modest, sadly dull, shortsword.

The sun has dipped behind the tall trees. It won’t be sunset for an hour or so, yet. But the forestry blocks out the bright blue sky and creates a twilight nonetheless.

[…]

Dusk settles about the wood, and suddenly your footfalls upon the tall grasses seem deafening among the silent forest.

Cecil tries to whistle, once or twice. But despite his cheerful notes, the song sounds dissonant and haunting in the backdrop of this sleepy forest.

Shorjahl is looking about, following shadows with his eyes. Suddenly, he catches sight of something that stops him dead in his tracks.

Twenty feet away, between two gnarled oak trees, lays a human-sized figure. From this distance, you can hear it rasping for breath.

You hurry forward, twigs and needles crunching beneath your feet.

It is a grisly sight.

A farmer, wearing filthy and rotted clothes, lays upon the ground. His skin is white, and his cloth coveralls are torn and bloody. His milky eyes stare at you as you approach, and you can see a fatal wound upon his neck.

“Please!” he rasps, holding out his arms.

“Help…me!”

As you approach, the smell is awful and foul. The wound upon his neck bleeds profusely - thick clots of deep, crimson blood pooling beneath him onto the ground.

Your ears are keenly aware of an insectoid buzzing in the woods. Like crickets, or bees, humming from within the dark trees.

The farmer gurgles, twitching.

You look to the gaping wound in his neck. It looks like something - or someone - has taken a fist-sized bite of his flesh.

==============================

Ok guys, you’re in the middle of the Cloak Wood about 10 feet away from the fallen farmer. The horses are with you, and you are on foot. This is a moderately dense part of the forest, and the light is beginning to fade quickly. Trees are spaced perhaps 10 feet apart, generally. Tall, thin oak trees that seem to reach up into the sky.

The canopy above is thick, and only small pools of light illuminate the path.

Dwan can tell the farmer is likely long gone. He has lost a ton of blood. Only the most miraculous of healing could possibly save anyone with a wound like that.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Dwan Bolduum on Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:28 pm

Dwan's demeanor seems significantly improved once the party is making their way out of the city. The warmth of the sun and the brisk sea breeze bring a toothy smile to his face.  Ahh... now this is living.

A few hours later, as they continue to make their way towards the manor, Dwan takes up a marching song from his time in the Army of Gold.

Axes flash, Broadswords swing,
Shining armor piercing ring!
Fighting rams with a polished shield,
Fight those bastards, till they yield!
Metal bare, and the sounding horn,
Fight to keep this land your own!
Slay the horde and call the cry:
"How many of them can we make die!"

With the final verse Dwan laughs with the others but turns solumn soon after. He stays fairly quiet for the rest of the journey.

----------------------------------------------

At Shorjahl's report Dwan looks towards the tree line and sees the dying old man.   Dwan rushes towards him and applies firm pressure on the neck wound.

Sir. Sir! he speaks up loudly to grab the man's gaze.  Sir, we are here to help you.  What did this to you? Where did it go?

Dwan, looks up towards the body and slightly shakes his head from left to right, hoping that his colleagues will understand that they are too late to help this man.

Artimus, get this man some of that wine.

Dwan closes his eyes and listens if there is anything approaching *perception 6+3 =9*
(will fill in with more detail later)

If man replies that monster is close and points in direction Dwan will cast spike growth between himself and the monster location.
If no reply but we hear monster approaching Dwan will cast flaming sphere.

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Custer Thickett on Mon Apr 20, 2015 1:13 pm

Pelegar
=====**

Custer palms his symbol of Wakeen next to the Kraken's Fist, a ponderous look upon his face.

Where are you, Roz?  Are you okay without me?

=====**

Cuss laughed at Osvald.  "Ha, ya look worse than normal, Lord Hale."

Cuss's face then turned a light shade of red when he realized that he'd be the one to ride the donkey.  Asses always hated him.  They were vile creatures that would buck him or turn their awkward necks into a hook to bite at his knees.  He thought of refusing the mount and purchasing a horse from another stall along the road, but when he glanced the looks of the others, he perceived the subtle challenge and sighed.  He leveled his stare to look at the donkey's one eye.  We need an understanding, you and I.

He bows to the group.  "Eh, Aye, Yeah.  It's a beautiful Ass.  I'll proudly mount it."

Custer turns away, but leans over to Kellar and whispers up to him.  "I need to change, no?  I'm not going the clumsy well to do fancy dressed type along the trade road.  Oh, I'm sure it'd be a sight for laughs, but this ass is sure to throw me and I'll ruin these clothes in the mud, yeah?"

=====**

As dawn breaks, Cuss found himself to be much more comfortable in his old worn once black now grayish cloak.  He had covered his leather with a brown stained smock.  Only the nice belts, pouches, and holstered crossbows offset his homely attire.  The brisk sea breeze warned of a very cold day.  One that would be much more comfortable in these thicker, woolen, clothes... When they dry.

The donkey had proven adept at throwing the Halfling from his back.  But the party found surprise in Cuss's ability to roll out several awkward landings to come away unscathed, yet very dirty.  He always ended up on his feet, a goofy smile across his face.  He'd blurt out insults to the animal and quick humorous explanations usually suggestive of a troubled marriage.

Throughout the ride, Cuss never quit talking.  He pestered Osvald for being hung over.  He berated Artimus for being so quiet and reserved over the past few days, often commenting on how day sounded much more relaxing hearing the hooves of horses upon a well worn road rather than the intelligible babble of Cormyrians.  He exchanged light-hearted insults with Dwan, but was respectful of Shorjahl's detachments, and felt a lot of pity for what the man had been through in his company.

After Dwan had roared his marching song, Cuss had taken up K'Tesh's jeweled lute and struggled to toot a tune that seemed fitting to the tempo of the song.  He'd almost broken the instrument when the Ass bucked him in protest.  When he tumbled and rose with a smile, he noticed Dwan's sour demeanor and found himself frowning and wondering if the dwarf had asked the Ass to do it.  Cuss shrugged, and stowed the lute back in it's tight wrap.

Next to the pond, Cuss answers Cecil.  "5,000 gold should be the least of ya worries, pad.  Ya might find yaself needen to make amends with the Arrows, but Soren is not going to be ya concern.  Ya brother made that deal, and it's to him to settle it to agreeable terms.  The Lady will not forgive the insult to her by one who shakes another hand, and then turns their back to not only fail to hold up their end, but work against mutual fulfillment.  His fate is his own making, no?  As is Soren's.  And yours."

=====**

In the cloak wood, Custer found himself lacking the tools for his journey.  This was particularly frustrating to him because he spent so much time thinking on, acquiring, and preparing tool kits for his travels.  He envied Cecil's shortsword.  Trying to make light of it, Cuss laughed and asked, "My Ass for an edged blade?"

When the situation erupted and Dawn was rushing towards a dying old man, Custer's surroundings screamed out at him.  They hadn't passed a worked farm or occupied hut for hours.  This felt wrong.  Staged.  Cuss's head moved left and right, trying to find the direction of the sound.  [Perception roll] +1

12

Cuss rushed to the closest tree and quickly looped the donkey's lead to the truck.  The animal yanked and reared to fight against the tree.

Cuss took several quick steps into the tallest, thickest reeds he could find.  There he kneeled among the plants and started working to prepare and load his two hand crossbows.  [Stealth roll] +7

Post  Kellar on Mon Apr 20, 2015 4:11 pm

After the group acquired their mounts, thanks to Lord Hale, Kellar kept Orbaugh on the neck of the horse until they were out of town. The pseudodragon had been leaping from his shoulder onto the horse and vice versa to the point that even the horse was getting annoyed. Kellar listened to Custer's reasoning before they set off, and it was a good idea for the Hin to change his attire. Wearing lesser clothing was a good call, Little One. At this point you like like you're half pig with all that mud hanging off you, Kellar chuckled.

As the group entered the Cloak Wood, Kellar dropped from his mount and walked with the group. They came upon the dying man on the ground with the gouge out of his neck...

Orbaugh, climb up the tree here and look around, tell me what you see! Okay! I see, I see! Perception roll= 15+4= 19

Kellar removed his crossbow and loaded a bolt as quick as he could while Orbaugh began observing the area. Lord Hale, be ready! Custer... Custer? Nevermind, he said as looked around, not finding the Hin. Shorjahl, how about some light?

Kellar stepped in front of Dwan and the dying man and covered them both from possible attack.

Actions:
Kellar readies a crossbow attack, while covering Dwan and the Dying Man. Orbaugh is trying to be Perceptive...

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Osvald Hale on Mon Apr 20, 2015 5:01 pm

Osvald slouched wearily on the back of the horse, his head cradled in one hand, trusting the horse to follow the trail.

"Ha, ya look worse than normal, Lord Hale."

He forces a weak grin; "You don't know the half of it, Cuss... death would be welcome at this point."

...

As the day drags on, Osvald slowly begins to compose himself, though he remains quiet throughout the afternoon.

When the party comes upon the man lying the path, the ranger looks around suspiciously before he dismounts and draws his bow.

Osvald looks on worriedly as Dwan rushes to the dying mans aid. It was obvious his wound was grievous, and he would soon depart this world. No man could survive more then a few moments with such an injury so whatever caused it must still be very close.

"Quiet!" Osvald hisses, his eyes suddenly locking on the tree line to the side of the path.

There was a buzzing sound... difficult to pinpoint the source... The huntsman raises his bow, drawing back an arrow...

=====

Osvald has his arrow trained in the direction of the buzzing sound, Perception to locate the source, Nature to determine if Osvald has any familiarity with the sounds emanating from the wood.

Perception 11 + 4 = 15

Nature 3 + 4 = 7

The buzzing grows louder and louder in your ears, as the clearing seems to vibrate with the thrumming of insect wings on the air.

You stand in the sunless clearing, tall reeds flanking your peripheral vision. Custer lurks amidst the shrubbery, while Dwan looms over the fallen farmer.

The dwarf looks into the face of the man - utter terror apparent on his face.

“GGGHhhhhhllll”

His lips move, glistening wet with blood. Tears streak down his cheeks, into a muss of filthy hair tangled with leaves and sediment.

Dwan applies more pressure, trying to slow the crimson overflow.

The tiny pseudodragon clambers up a moss-covered tree, peering out into the twilight canopy. The buzzing is incessant in your ears, growing to a crescendo until it is almost unbearable.

Suddenly, the farmer begins to shriek - bloodied, gargling shrieks of pain that rise with the noise until they seem to twist together in a discordant, horrific song.

And then, as quickly as the sound came, it recedes.

The farmer’s body collapses back into the mud, his last breath leaving his lips. His eyes stare up emptily into Dwan’s.

[Orbaugh, perception roll]

Orbaugh looks out through the trees, the creature letting out a squeaking gasp.

[[Master! To west…can see shadows through the trees. They moving away. Cannot see them…to west they go….]]

[…]

The corpse’s eyelids snap open, startling Dwan as the body convulses beneath him.

A thick, murky, green discharge seems to burst forth from the liquefying eyes of the deceased farmer, a trembling, bassy cry bellowing forth from its caved-in chest.

The sound sends Dwan reeling, as the corpse reaches up for his throat!

[Corpse vs. Dwan x2]

Suddenly, the cleric feels a fiery pain that shoots through his neck in an infectious, burning torrent as the two fleshy, slick hands of the corpse close around his neck.

The pain is excruciating, his vision beginning to blur as the mucousy eyes of the farmer stare at him through tears.

Dwan is paralyzed. He can feel the life draining from his limbs - his fingertips go numb, and his breath fades into a faint gasp.

[Dwan takes 10 damage]
[Dwan suffers 10 CON damage = 7 CON remaining. If all CON points are lost, Dwan will die]

===========================

Ok guys,

The corpse has mobilized beneath Dwan’s body, grasping around his neck and wringing the life from him.

He is not grappled, but Dwan - in order to move you’ll need to make a CON check (don’t forget, your CON score is ‘7’ right now so use the appropriate modifier) of 10 - otherwise you’ll remain paralyzed and can only make a physical (non-spell) attack at disadvantage vs. the corpse

You’re all within 15’ of Dwan - Custer you’re hidden.

The buzzing sound has receded, and you can barely hear it. Orbaugh says that he saw shadows moving through the woods to the west..

Corpse’s HP is up in the lair!

Post  Custer Thickett on Tue Apr 21, 2015 2:02 am

Cuss kneels low in the reeds, his knuckles bare white gripping to his loaded and ready hand crossbows.  His eyes darted, but he saw no adversaries.  The buzzing soon filled his head with such intensity he could no longer hear his own thoughts.  He had to concentrate hard on the urge not to drop his weapons and cover his ears.  His vision seemed to sharpen then blur in succession.

As quick as it were upon him, it receded leaving behind only a dull, throbbing pain.  Between his own heartbeats Cuss thought he heard Dwan gasp and begin to call out for help, and one thing Cuss knew well was the sound of a man being choked.  His focused narrowed in the direction of Dwan and the farmer.  He sprinted from his crouch and exploded through the reeds in a sprint for Dwan.

He found himself behind the hunkered Dwarf, two large hands grasping his throat.   Cuss did not slow, and rather he leaped upon Dwans back in two strides.  He vaulted from the stout druid and dove forward while twisting his body, arching inverted over his target while extending his arms with his flipping body.  As the back of Dwan's head uncovered the farmer's murky green eyes, Custer loosed both bows, and tried to spot his landing beyond.

[Acrobatics +3]
7 Should have taken passive 13, ouch.

His body never turned back upright as he tried to spot a landing, and his gaze soon found the ground rushing up to meet it.

Post  Kellar on Tue Apr 21, 2015 7:42 pm

Kellar reacts to the movement to the West and to the sudden, sharp gurgle of the Druid that is over the corpse. To the West, Orbaugh sees movement, away from our position, he said to Lord Hale. Dwan, hang on!

Kellar turned the point of his crossbow toward the undead thing clutching at the Dwarf's neck. No time like now to try this thing out, he trailed off as he exhaled and narrowed in on the head of the undead farmer. THWOK!

The bolt flew harmlessly above the undead farmer's head, nearly hitting Custer as the Hin fluttered through the air. Damned thing! He slung the crossbow onto his back and drew his lance and moved forward...

Re: Chapter Three

Post  Dwan Bolduum on Wed Apr 22, 2015 7:21 am

Sadness fills Dwan's eyes as the old man succumbs to his wounds.  We should be wary, who know how close the beast that did this to him is.

As the last syllable leaves his mouth, the old man's body convulses underneath him and releases a shrilling cry into the air. Dwan grabs the sides of his head tries to block out the noise but his entire head continues to ring.   After what seemed like an eternity Dwan sees that the body has stopped moving removes his hands from his head, the ringing still prominent in his ears.

What the hell was that? Have any of the horses taken off?  Ugh--- Help  the last word just a whisper as the corpse wraps its hands around Dwan's throat.

As his breathing becomes more strained Dwan feels two light taps moving up his back and feels a warm spray on his face. His blurred vision making out a small shape flying through the air.  As Dwan struggles to bring his world into focus he sees two bolts lodged into the man's head, part of his brain now exposed where the bolt split the skull.

Dwan struggles to not be pulled to the ground with the animated corpse as vision starts to go black, White spots, I need to get out of this now.  **Constitution save (-2 with modifier) 14-2 12**

Dwan kicks himself free from the farmer and takes a deep breath. Dwan slips his mace out from his belt loop and spins his body to build extra momentum with his swing, his aim focused on the spot where Custer's bolt split the skull.
**Melee attack with mace  (rolling 2 in case of disadvantage) 18+4 22**

Grahh The yell scratchy from Dwan as his mace connects on the crack and continues to move through the head as it bursts from the contact.

Dwan continues to breath deeply as he tries to take control of the adrenaline that is flowing through his body. He looks up at Custer and nods his thanks.

Anyone see anything else?

Post  Ao on Wed Apr 22, 2015 10:29 am

The farmers corpse is immediately silenced as Dwan's mace carries through the skull, embedding in the mud beneath with a wet squelch.

Looking down, the red pudding of brain and skin is sickening.

The clearing is suddenly silent, only the wind blowing through the trees providing a backdrop to the dark moment past.

Dwan's body aches brutally, and he can feel his muscles screaming with pain.

From the corners of your eyes, shadows dance amidst the reeds as the sunlight all but disappears beneath the horizon beyond the canopy.

====================

Ok guys.

Cecil is terrified, and will scarcely speak as he stares at the brained corpse.

How are you going about this? Are you going to continue along, following Cecil to the keep? Are you more concerned with following the shadows that Orbaugh saw from above?

What are you doing with your mounts?

Exp: + 20 don't forget rolls tracking / navigating / stealth

Post  Osvald Hale on Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:17 am

"To the West, Orbaugh sees movement, away from our position." Osvald springs into action at Kellars warning, moving toward the nearest large tree on the western side of the path, he slings his bow over his shoulder and clenches his arrow between his teeth, picking up speed and leaping into the lower branches of the tree.

Osvald climbs quickly but carefully, trying to gain enough height to attempt to see what Orbaugh has spotted.

=====

Rolling perception and nature again at identifying the creatures. Osvald will also examine the foliage to the west of the path for crushed grass and broken branches indicating the path whatever it was has taken, and to potentially assess the number / size of creatures. He'll relay this information to the party immediately so we can all make a decision how to proceed.

Also, has the buzzing sound subsided now Ao?

14 + 4 = 18 Perception.

19 + 4 = 23 Nature.

(Not bad!)

Artimus is shaken back to life.

awakened by the sickening cry that rang out, sharply , muted slightly by the soft wet needles and leaves on the ground of the cloakwood.

With Kellar, and Cuss rushing to Dwan's aid, Artimus turned his attention to the ominous buzzing that prevaded the trees. His deft fingers flicked flint on steel while he hugged the tallow covered timber between his ribcage and armpit.

The torch erupting in warm yellow flame casting dancing light on trunks and limps, gripped now in his left gloved hand he drew his blade with his right.

He readied himsef for what would come next.

Post  Custer Thickett on Wed Apr 22, 2015 1:23 pm

Custer props himself up on his elbows, returning Dwan's nod.  He managed to awkwardly roll out his failed landing.  He looked about at the others, spotting Osvald climbing a tree and calling out what he saw to the west.  Kellar and Orbaugh were also staring in the direction.

Cuss sprung to his feet and began loading his crossbows.  He calls up to Osvald, "How many legs?"

=========

If we think it might be Soren, I say we hunt them.  We need to see if they are drawing us away from the Keep.  Cuss will keep pace with another to scout.  The horses will be trouble in this terrain so maybe one person could tend them in the rear?

Post  Kellar on Wed Apr 22, 2015 11:38 pm

Kellar heard Custer call out to Lord Hale and replied, Need some light before too long. Cut the horses loose, they're no good to us in the woods, they'll slow us down. No chance to be quiet while moving forward. Orbaugh, move along the trees as you can, be quiet too please. Keep an eye out for movement. I sneaky!

Maybe you and Lord Hale should be on point, I'll remain at the back with Dwan and cover our trail, he said to Custer.

Actions:
Kellar will suggest cutting the horses, they're no use right now, unless maybe they're left tied to the trees and possibly eaten by whatever... In that case we'd have zombie horses.
Movement roll:
Kellar- Stealth Roll= 16+3= 19; success!
Orbaugh- Stealth Roll= 16+4= 20; success! Perception Roll= 14+3= 17; good enough? Stay tuned!

Maybe you and Lord Hale should be on point, I'll remain at the back with Dwan and cover our trail

I'm with Kellar, we all need to be moving now. Stay close to me I can help us stay hidden as we proceed.

Dwan hesitantly cleans off his mace on the clothes of the dead farmer and switches the mace for his scepter.  He waves the scepter back and forth causing the living ends of the willow branch to dance until they each appear to be moving in a pattern independent of the others.  Dwan whispers a druidic plea to the earth.  Everyone's shadow seems to waiver and move, those who have started moving away from Dwan will notice the effects of the spell as the snapping of twigs and movement of branches dull to the point where they can hardly hear it.

**Dwan casts Pass without Trace**

Don't travel too far or the affects of this will wear off.  This will only work for about an hour, so we need to start moving now. You don't need to worry about our tracks Kellar, this will take care of that.

Dwan moves towards the center of the party and urges Cecil to stay close.  Cecil, stay in the center, we don't need you going missing on us while we proceed.

**Stealth Roll**
12+10 = 22

As the party moves towards it's destination Dwan will keep an eye out in the woods for anything that looks out of place in the forest.

**Perception Roll**
14+3=17
========================
Dwan casts Pass without Trace which grants each person I select (the entire party+Cecil)  a +10 bonus to stealth checks as long as they are within a 30 foot radius of me.  We can only be tracked by magical means.
